Sysmex Supports Laboratory Testing

Sysmex in the Lab

Sysmex contributes to healthy lives through its activities in the field of testing.

What is a laboratory like?

A clinical laboratory (“laboratory”) at a hospital is where blood tests, urinalysis, and other tests are conducted to support the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. At a laboratory, medical laboratory professionals (“laboratory professionals”) perform a wide range of tests. When laboratory professionals promptly deliver accurate test results and clinically useful diagnostic information to physicians, physicians are better equipped to make accurate diagnoses.

Testing Flow
  • 1.Samples are taken for hospital
    tests or medical checkups (blood,
    urine and other samples).
  • 2.Laboratories use instruments and reagents
    to perform tests
  • 3.The results help decide
    diagnoses and treatment methods.

How are testing laboratories and Sysmex related?

Sysmex provides blood and urine testing instruments and diagnostic reagents used in laboratories. As an end-to-end solution provider, we cover the entire process from R&D and production through to sales and customer care. In addition to delivering products, we also work to enhance the testing environment and improve the quality of test results.

  • Initiatives to improve the testing environment
    • Improve testing instruments and workflows to reduce turnaround time
    • Provide testing instruments and diagnostic reagents suited to various facilities, such as hospitals and commercial labs
    • Propose testing instrument layouts that allow laboratory technologists to work confidently and comfortably
    • Customer care system for uninterrupted testing
  • Initiatives to improve the quality of test results
    • Standardize test results globally
    • Provide the latest academic insights and other relevant information, and explain how to interpret test data

Research & Development

Sysmex’s R&D

They learn how the products in this lab are developed.

Where are products developed?

Sysmex promotes R&D globally from Technopark, our core R&D base located in Kobe. At Technopark, researchers and developers with diverse expertise work to advance technologies and generate new ideas using our core technological platforms for measuring cells, proteins, and genes. To facilitate open communication, experiment and office areas share the same floor, with glass partitions allowing lab teams and office staff to see one another. In the experiment area, both instruments and reagents are being developed. The valuable ideas generated here are applied to the development of instruments and reagents.
What are diagnostic reagents?

Diagnostic reagents are substances used with blood and urine samples collected from the body to perform measurements with in vitro diagnostic instruments. In blood testing, for example, diagnostic reagents react with blood inside the instrument to dilute it, or to lyse or stain blood cells, enabling accurate measurement of the sample.

Sysmex’s diagnostic reagents used for blood testing (example)
  Function
Diluent (for dilution) A diagnostic reagent that dilutes blood to the optimal concentration for testing while preserving the shape of blood cells.
Lysing reagent (for lysing) A diagnostic reagent that lyses unwanted blood cells while preserving the target blood components needed for testing.
e.g.) For white blood cell measurement, unwanted components such as red blood cells and platelets are lysed.
Stain (for staining) A diagnostic reagent that stains nucleic acid components* in blood. Directing a laser beam at the stained cells enables differentiation of blood cell types based on the resulting data.
  • *Nucleic acid components: DNA and RNA.

What are Sysmex’s unique
strengths in product development?

As a global provider, Sysmex develops instruments and reagents that deliver consistent quality regardless of the environment or region in which they are used. Among other priorities, we place strong emphasis on making continual improvements to comply with stringent local regulations, ensuring usability and environmental friendliness, and developing products that can be manufactured to a uniform standard worldwide. Because product development requires addressing multiple factors simultaneously, Sysmex draws on specialists across diverse technologies and fields who contribute actively at different stages of the value chain. Additional strengths include our position as an end-to-end manufacturer that internally develops instruments, reagents, and IT solutions, along with our ability to capture synergies by integrating the latest global technologies through partnerships — including open innovation, alliances, and M&A.

Sysmex delivers confidence (anshin)

Sysmex’s commitment to ensuring accurate test results does not end when our products are delivered to customers.

What we mean by “supporting testing”

Testing plays a crucial role in diagnosing diseases and determining treatment plans. To enable the prompt delivery of medical services, accurate test results must be communicated to the physician without delay. This requires proper instrument maintenance and the prompt resolution of any issues to ensure uninterrupted testing.
Sysmex connects our systems with customers’ testing instruments via a dedicated network to monitor instrument conditions to enable us to detect potential issues quickly and provide preventive repair and inspection services. Our Customer Support Center also handles general inquiries, provides remote support, and dispatches specialists promptly and reliably. This helps prevent unexpected failures. By combining instrument maintenance and remote support, we help laboratories streamline and stabilize their operations, creating an environment where customers can use our products with confidence.

Examples of customer care

This information is shared with customer support centers and field service engineers to support rapid maintenance and troubleshooting.

What does Sysmex do to improve the quality of customer care?

To ensure that customers across all regions can use our products with confidence, we maintain a global network of directly operated sites and dealers that provide customer care. Our systems ensure that customer care specialists can acquire the relevant knowledge and skills, and we record all customer support cases on a globally shared platform. These measures allow us to provide better solutions more promptly and inform the development and improvement of our products. Helping customers better understand our products is also essential to delivering more accurate test results. Sysmex offers training programs in various formats, including group sessions and e-learning. These programs cover the correct use of our products, the interpretation of test data, and more.
