Business Continuity Management

Establishment of a Business Continuity Plan (BCP)

We have worked to implement risk management to ensure the continuity and development of our business. Within this framework, we position business continuity management as one of our important initiatives. As part of these efforts, each Group company has established business continuity plans (BCPs) for its critical operations, to ensure the continuity of critical operations and enable rapid recovery in the event of any crisis—including large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, storms, and floods, infectious diseases, and system failures. The BCP pre-defines necessary response policies and procedures to ensure that each operation can continue even in the event of a crisis.

Sysmex’s Fundamental Stance on Business Continuity

Our fundamental stance is to ensure the safety, security and reassurance of all stakeholders, even in the event of a crisis.
From a business continuity perspective, the top priority is the protection of human lives, followed by the continuity of critical operations and the protection of assets.
In particular, we place high priority on ensuring that our customers’ testing operations are not interrupted and consider "supplying diagnostic reagents" and "providing technical services" as top-priority critical operations.
Furthermore, we will cooperate in securing the safety of the local community and nearby residents, thus fulfilling our corporate social responsibility.

Business Continuity Promotion Structure

We have established a structure for preparedness in normal times and emergency response under the Internal Control Committee, chaired by the President.
In normal times, each department and Group company conducts risk assessments to identify critical operations and assets. Additionally, we are taking measures such as securing alternative means of operation, establishing backup systems, and strengthening inventory and equipment. Furthermore, we are working to improve resilience by establishing a communication structure and conducting regular training and reviews.
We also maintain an organizational structure to ensure a swift and effective response in times of emergency. Specifically, we have established a critical operation response organization that designates a person in charge and the person responsible for each critical operation, enabling this organization to respond to ensure the continuity of each operation in the event of a crisis. We have also established critical operation support organization for general affairs, IT, human resources, public relations, and management, creating a structure to support the continuity of critical business operations.
In the event of an emergency, a task force will be established as needed to ensure a swift initial response, information sharing, and decision-making process. These organizations taking proactive action will enable a swift response and recovery.

Major BCP Initiatives

Securing Employee Safety and Business Continuity

We strive to achieve both employee safety and business continuity through measures such as confirming the safety of employees during disasters, establishing emergency contact systems, and utilizing flexible work arrangements. In addition, we have set the participation rate in disaster prevention training as a monitoring indicator in our sustainability goals to improve employees' disaster awareness and response capabilities.

Stable Supply of Products

To support the continuity of testing in healthcare facilities, we are promoting initiatives aimed at proactive preparation and rapid recovery from risks such as disasters and supply chain disruptions.

Basic Policy
1) Global decentralization of diagnostic reagent production facilities
2) Strengthening the resilience of diagnostic reagent production facilities
3) Securing a continuous supply of raw materials and promoting procurement from multiple suppliers
4) Securing safety stocks of products and storing them at multiple locations
5) Establishment and strengthening of logistics networks
6) Mutual supply in preparation for greater impacts

Continuity of Technical Service Provision to Customers

To support the continuity of testing in healthcare facilities, we are working to maintain our service provision system, including responding to customer inquiries and providing on-site repairs.
Furthermore, we have established a system to ensure continuity in responding to inquiries and maintaining a support system, so that necessary support can continue even in the event of disasters or system failures.

Securing the Continuity of IT Systems

In addition to developing a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) against cyberattacks, we are also working on establishing monitoring systems, alternative operations, backups, and recovery procedures to ensure that critical operations can continue even in the event of a crisis or system failure.
We will continuously improve our business continuity management to enhance business resilience and ensure the stable provision of services for healthcare facilities.
