Efficient Use of Water Resources

Efficient Use and Conservation of Water Resources

Reducing Water Consumption

Sysmex uses municipal water and groundwater in its business activities, including using water as a raw material in reagent production.
Accordingly, we position the reduction of water use as a key priority. Under Sysmex Eco-Vision 2033, we have established targets for reducing water consumption alongside mid-term sustainability targets while advancing initiatives to enhance water use efficiency at our reagent production factories.
At the Ono Factory, a reagent production facility, we reviewed the cleaning processes during continuous production of the same product, successfully reducing or omitting cleaning cycles while assuring product quality. By conducting verification and equipment modifications tailored to differing tank structures and aligning these with production planning, we maximized the effectiveness of these efforts. In addition, by reviewing production processes, we have developed technology to recover residual product solution remaining in piping, which was previously disposed of as waste liquids, and convert it into finished products.
Through these initiatives, we reduced water consumption by a cumulative total of 7,500 tons over three years. These initiatives also contributed to achieving the sustainability target of “water consumption reduction rate” set for the Group’s major reagent factories, achieving a 25-percentage-point reduction against the 23-percentage-point target for fiscal 2025.
Looking ahead, we are considering the horizontal deployment of these initiatives to other global factories, aiming for further reductions in water consumption.

Promoting Global KAIZEN Activities at Reagent Production Facilities

Sysmex holds the KAIZEN Forum as a platform for sharing improvement activities undertaken by its global factories throughout the year. Marking its fifth year, this year’s forum brought together over 100 participants.
In addition to enhancements in productivity and quality, each factory presented numerous initiatives contributing to environmental impact reduction through more efficient use of resources and energy. For example, initiatives shared included integrating the filtration and filling processes for cleaning and decontamination solutions to reduce chemical usage and waste, as well as extending filter lifespan to conserve resource inputs.
By sharing these activities, the KAIZEN Forum facilitates knowledge exchange among factories and the deployment of best practices across the Group, promoting monozukuri—manufacturing practices that balance environmental sustainability with higher productivity. It represents one of our key initiatives toward achieving sustainable manufacturing processes.

Wastewater Management and Processing

Sysmex prioritizes the protection of water quality. To ensure that wastewater from R&D sites and factories handling chemical substances does not adversely affect rivers or groundwater, we have established our own discharge standards and manage wastewater accordingly.
Each reagent factory is equipped with a wastewater treatment system to appropriately process and purify waste liquids generated during reagent production, thereby contributing to water quality preservation.

Major Initiatives at Each Business Site
