Sysmex Corporation has received Chairman's Prize from the Hyogo Institute of Invention and Innovation and three Encouragement Prizes for Inventions, at the Kinki Local Commendation for Inventions Awards sponsored by Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation.

The Local Commendation for Inventions Award is a commendation with a long history since 1921 that publicly honors engineers and researchers who created excellent or practiced inventions and designs, for the purpose of improving technologies and contributing to promotion of regional industries, through an encouragement of inventions in local regions.

Award Details
1 Title of the award: Chairman's Prize from the Hyogo Institute of Invention and Innovation
Title of awarded invention: Prothrombin time measuring reagentJP Patent No. 6626761
Winners: Yusuke Tanaka, Takahiko Bandou, Kiyoko Kohama, Haruki Yamaguchi
  Description of the invention:
The invention relates to a prothrombin time measuring reagent used for monitoring warfarin that is a therapeutic drug used for treatment of myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction and etc., and used for the others.

In this invention, the prothrombin time measuring reagent is formed of liposome containing a specific phospholipid including a tissue factor, and liposome containing a specific phospholipid different from that of the above-described liposome.  Therefore, both a normal clotting time within appropriate ranges and an international sensitivity index can be stably obtained, and dosage of the warfarin by being monitored the effect of the medicine by this reagent can be appropriately controlled, so that concerns for side effects are reduced, leading to less worries for doctors.

2 Title of the award: Encouragement Prize for Invention

 1)
Title of awarded invention: Malaria-infected red blood cell detection method(JP Patent No. 4969115
Winners: Ayumu Yoshida, Kinya Uchihashi, Yuji Itose, Aya Konishi

  Description of the invention:
The invention relates to a malaria-infected red blood cell detection method that allows infection with Plasmodium falciparum and malaria infection ratio to be grasped.

In this invention, a malaria-infected red blood cell can be detected in a state where the red blood cell holds Plasmodium thereinside, and, therefore, an infection ratio as a proportion of the number of malaria-infected red blood cells to the number of all red blood cells can be grasped, so that this invention can contribute to early detection and appropriate treatment of malaria.

 2)
Title of awarded invention: Cell imaging apparatus(JP Patent No. 6268309
Winners: Masakazu Fukuda, Masamichi Tanaka, Yanyan Liu, Ryosuke Fujii, Takumi Inutsuka, Tomoyuki Tsukahara

  Description of the invention:
The invention relates to a cell imaging apparatus for taking an image of a cell in a liquid sample.
In this invention, an image of a cell is taken at a plurality of image taking positions while each of a sample cell and an objective lens is continuously moved, without performing focusing operation for each cell. Therefore, an image can be taken in a short time period, so that the present invention can contribute to performing tests more rapidly and efficiently.

 3)
Title of awarded invention: Analyzer having abnormality monitoring function(JP Patent No. 5878377
Winners: Kazutoshi Tokunaga, Toshikatsu Fukuju, Tomoyuki Nishida, Hiroyuki Nishikawa, Keiji Tachibana
  Description of the invention:
The invention relates to an analyzer having a function of monitoring abnormality in a liquid amount in a case where liquid such as a specimen like blood and urine, and a reagent is dispensed into a container.
In this invention, monitoring as to whether or not a predetermined amount of liquid is dispensed into a container can be easily performed according to output from an optical sensor being changed while light is blocked by the liquid dispensed into the container, so that reliability of the analyzer is enhanced.
