Sysmex Receives “Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award” at the Kinki Local Commendation for Invention in 2026
- #Technology Awards
Sysmex Corporation received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award, a special award presented at the Kinki Local Commendation for Invention organized by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation. This award is presented to the inventors of the most outstanding invention recognized at the Kinki Local Commendation for Invention.
In addition, as the company associated with the invention that received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award, Sysmex Corporation (represented by Iwane Matsui, President) received the Implementation Achievement Award.
The Local Commendation for Invention is a historical commendation which has been around since 1921 for publicly honoring engineers, researchers, and developers who created excellent and practical inventions and designs, for the purpose of contributing to improvement of science and technology and promotion of regional industries through encouragement and growth of inventions in local regions.
Overview of the Award
- Title of the award:
Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award
- Institution:
Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation
- Title of the invention:
Blood Testing Reagent for Alzheimer's Disease (Japanese Patent No. 7629278)
- Recipients:
Takuya Iino, Shunsuke Watanabe, Kazuto Yamashita, Kouzou Suto
- Description of the invention:
The present invention relates to a reagent technology for the highly accurate measurement of amyloid beta (Aβ), considered the causative agent of Alzheimer's disease, in blood.
In recent years, therapeutic drugs for Alzheimer's disease have emerged. To administer these treatments, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) testing or PET scans are required to assess Aβ accumulation in the brain. However, these testing methods pose challenges, including a significant physical burden on patients. Consequently, there has been a strong demand for a simpler, more affordable, and less invasive technology to estimate Aβ accumulation in the brain by measuring the very low concentrations of Aβ present in the blood.
To address this issue, we have developed a blood test reagent for Alzheimer's disease that utilizes capture and detection antibodies which specifically bind to Aβ in the blood. When Aβ in the blood is measured using an automated immunoassay analyzer equipped with this reagent, the results demonstrate a high correlation (correlation coefficient of 0.8 or higher) with mass spectrometry, the reference measurement method, enabling highly accurate quantification.
The present invention will provide treatment opportunities to a broader range of Alzheimer's disease patients and contribute to reducing the social costs associated with the disease.
