Sysmex to Establish New Manufacturing Base in India

- Creating a Manufacturing Structure in India to Support Sustainable Growth -

Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan; President: Kaoru Asano) announces today the decision to establish a new manufacturing base in Gujarat State, India to achieve medium- to long-term business expansion and sustainable growth.

According to World Population Prospects 2022,1 India is projected to surpass China to become the world’s most populous country in 2023 and will rank third in the world in GDP in 20272 due to rapid economic growth. With private-sector led initiatives and plans for continuous policy investment in medical infrastructure to meet increasing demand for good access to healthcare as the economy continues to develop, high growth is expected in the Indian healthcare market for the foreseeable future.

Sysmex’s business in the country began in 1998 with the establishment of a local joint venture (presently Sysmex India Pvt. Ltd.). It became a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2008 and its direct sales and services and support have seen steady growth, beginning with urinalysis in 2012 and progressing to hemostasis and clinical chemistry testing in 2014, and hematology, its mainstay, in 2019. Thus, rapid expansion of the business, as well as the sales and service network, has been achieved. As for its manufacturing structure, the establishment of a reagent production factory in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh in 2007 has ensured a stable supply of reagent products to customers in India.

In anticipation of increased demand for testing in India’s high-growth market, Sysmex has decided to construct a new manufacturing base in Ahmedabad, Gujarat in order to ensure a stable supply of products in the medium- to long-term through maintenance and expansion of the existing manufacturing structure. It will have the manufacturing capacity and scalability to allow for rapidly increasing demand and an expanded product lineup in the future. It is also planned to enable manufacturing of some devices and to have a parts procurement function. Key concepts include high quality, high efficiency manufacturing, and environmental considerations such as the installation of a zero liquid discharge system3 aiming to eliminate water discharge outside the factory site.

Going forward, Sysmex will continue to rapidly provide manufacturing structures matched to the market environment and growth in every region to ensure stable supplies of products to global customers.
