Sysmex Group AI Policy

AI has the potential to make a significant contribution to better healthcare quality and human health. Guided by our mission, “Shaping the advancement of healthcare,” the Sysmex Group will promote truly human-centric and safe use of AI across our products, services, and business operations. Under the Shared Values founded on our Group philosophy, the Sysmex Way, we have established this Basic Policy on AI to provide peace of mind and create new value for patients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders through the use of AI.

1. Pursuit of Peace of Mind

The Sysmex Group will continue to pursue peace of mind for customers by always acting from their perspective, promoting appropriate quality and operational practices according to the intended use and risks of AI - from products to internal operations—and making decisions that also consider the environmental impact of the infrastructure supporting AI.

  • When using AI in the products and services we provide, we will continuously pursue safety and quality, appropriately monitor performance and conditions of use, and respond promptly and sincerely to customer concerns.
  • We will take appropriate measures for the safe use of AI in our internal business processes.

2. Human-Centric AI and the Creation of New Value

In pursuit of creating distinctive new value, the Sysmex Group will use human-centric AI to optimize internal and external operations and drive innovation in healthcare.

  • In our products and services, we will use AI as a technology that supports the expertise and decision-making of healthcare professionals and delivers new value to patients and others. By combining AI with the proprietary technologies we have cultivated, we will lead innovation in healthcare.
  • Across diverse business processes, including research and development and manufacturing, we will use AI to enhance and streamline operations and support decision-making, thereby contributing to sustainable growth and the creation of new value.
  • We will appropriately assess and manage risks that may arise according to the characteristics and intended use of AI.

3. Governance and Responsibility Grounded in High Ethical Standards

The Sysmex Group will consistently conduct its business with high ethical standards and provide customers with peace of mind through a governance framework, appropriate human involvement, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Throughout the AI lifecycle in our products, services, and internal operations, we will establish mechanisms that enable appropriate human involvement according to the risks and intended use of AI, as well as the ongoing review and improvement of how AI is used.
  • We will use AI under an appropriate AI governance framework, in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal rules.

4. Respect for Diversity and Fair and Equitable AI

The Sysmex Group will respect the dignity, rights, and diversity of every individual, seek to prevent unjust discrimination or disadvantage caused by AI, and strive for the fair and equitable development, provision, and use of AI.

  • To prevent unjust disadvantages to patients and users, we will conduct reviews as appropriate according to the intended use and risks of AI.
  • We will respect and appropriately protect privacy, intellectual property rights, and other rights of individuals and third parties.

5. Thorough Protection of Privacy and Security

Recognizing the importance of personal information, confidential information, and other data handled in connection with AI, the Sysmex Group will establish appropriate management systems to ensure privacy and security.

  • Throughout the AI lifecycle, we will handle data appropriately, taking into account applicable data protection laws, regulations, and internal rules.
  • We will implement security measures appropriate to the intended use and risks of AI and seek to protect data and systems through ongoing review and improvement.

6. Ensuring Transparency

The Sysmex Group will promote transparency through appropriate disclosure and communication according to the intended use, characteristics, and impact of AI.

  • For our products and services, we will provide patients, healthcare professionals, and other users with information appropriate to support their understanding and decision-making, while taking into account applicable laws, regulations, and trade secrets.
