For the fourth consecutive year, Sysmex Corporation has been awarded the highest rating of GOLD in the “Pride Index 2025”, which is an index formulated by the general incorporated association ‘work with Pride’ (hereinafter, wwP) to evaluate efforts of creating an inclusive environment related to sexual and gender minorities, such as LGBTQ+, by companies and organizations.

■ What is the Pride Index?

The Pride Index was formulated by wwP in 2016 and is the first index in Japan to evaluate LGBTQ+ policies and practices. Evaluations are carried out across five indicators: Policy (declaration of actions), Representation (community engagement), Inspiration (awareness-raising activities), Development (personnel systems and programs), and Engagement/Empowerment (social contribution and public relations activities). Based on the total score of the evaluations, a GOLD, SILVER, or BRONZE certification is awarded.

■ Sysmex’s efforts

At Sysmex, we view human resources as an important management resource for achieving sustainable growth. We strive to create a workplace environment where diverse talent can comfortably work, receive equal opportunities, and thrive, by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

With regard to support for sexual and gender minorities, we have implemented a partner registration system that enables us to treat a same-sex partner as equal to a spouse on the family register. We also expressed our support for “Business for Marriage Equality (BME)”, which aims to legalize same-sex marriage in Japan (marriage equality), and the “Business Support for LGBT Equality in Japan”, which aims to realize the LGBT Equality Act. Additionally, we are implementing various efforts to deepen understanding about sexual and gender minorities, such as holding round table discussions* on LGBTQ+ issues, providing texts for learning about making improvements to the workplace environment from the perspective of SOGI (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity), and offering Ally stickers to express understanding and support for LGBTQ+ individuals. We have been involved in Tokyo Pride, the biggest LGBTQ+ event in Japan since FY2022.

Going forward, we will continue to strive to foster a corporate culture that enables our diverse human resources to have a sense of unity worldwide and use their abilities to the fullest with peace of mind.

* Roundtable discussions are held to exchange opinions on a wide range of topics, including work-life balance and cross-cultural understanding, as well as to provide opportunities for interdepartmental community building.
