The Collaborative Research Presentation by Sysmex Received the “Academic Encouragement Award (Best Presentation)” at the 34th Annual Meeting of the Japan Cytometry Society

Our presentation on collaborative research titled “Elucidating the Mechanisms of Mitochondrial Morphological Changes Detectable by AI-Driven Flow Cytometry in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Cells” received the Academic Encouragement Award (Best Presentation) at the 34th Annual Meeting of the Japan Cytometry Society.

Award Details
Title of the award: Elucidating the Mechanisms of Mitochondrial Morphological Changes
Detectable by AI-Driven Flow Cytometry in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Cells
Winners:  Kohjin Suzuki
Date of the award:  July 7, 2024
Description of
the invention:
Our collaborative research focuses on the detection of leukemia cells using
"Ghost Cytometry," an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven flow cytometry, with
the aim of achieving early diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).
In this presentation, we reported that the BCR::ABL1 gene, which is
responsible for CML, induces morphological changes in mitochondria,
one of the intracellular organelles. Furthermore, we elucidated the
molecular mechanisms underlying these changes. We demonstrated the
potential of Ghost Cytometry to accurately distinguish CML cells by
capturing such subtle cellular biological changes using AI.
Note:  Collaboration with Sysmex Corporation, Juntendo University,
Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and ThinkCyte K.K.
