Sysmex received an Award for Science and Technology (Development Category) in “the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology” in 2024. Sysmex has received this award five times in the past, and this time is for the first time in seven years.

“The Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology” aims to motivate people engaged in science and technology and contribute to the improvement of the level of science and technology in Japan. The Awards for Science and Technology (Development Category) are given to those who have contributed to the development and improvement of the social economy and livelihood in Japan and have achieved epochal research, development or inventions that are practical use.

Achievement Name: Development of a urine sample analyzing method useful for the early detection of disease

Achievement Description: This technology enables the classification of white blood cells,
atypical cells, and non-squamous cells by accurately analyzing the difference in the
amount of nucleic acid in the urine sediment test using an automatic urine analyzer.
With this technology, urine samples with difficulty to detect atypical cells and
non-squamous cells can be tested by the fully automated analyzer to confirm the
presence of atypical cells and non-squamous cells. Therefore, it is expected to lead to
early detection of bladder cancer, chronic kidney disease, etc.
