  In the short term, growth in Latin American economies is unsure due to factors such as political uncertainty, stemming from inflation. The region has the potential for stable growth over the medium to long term, however. This economic growth is swelling the population in the middle-income bracket and encouraging greater participation in private insurance. In line with this trend, the private hospital market continues to grow, and an increasing number of hospitals are introducing medical instruments on a par with those in developed countries.

  In 1998, Sysmex established a local subsidiary in Brazil to produce reagents, support its distributors, and conduct scientific seminars and other activities in Latin American markets. The Company has developed its business in the region by leveraging alliances, expanding its business through sales and support services via Roche Diagnostics in the fields of hematology and urinalysis, and Siemens Health Care Diagnostics in the hemostasis field.

  By establishing a new subsidiary in Colombia, in addition to the one in Brazil, Sysmex aims to augment its support for distributors, deliver products and services in response to local customers' needs and enhance the Company's presence in the region.
  Furthermore, Sysmex plans to expand its business in Latin America by establishing additional subsidiaries in Mexico, Chile, and Argentina in the foreseeable future.

  Going forward, Sysmex aims to augment its sales and support structure in emerging markets and provide Sysmex-specific support services as it strives to contribute to the development of healthcare.
