Sysmex Receives Fiscal 2010 Intellectual Property Achievement Award from Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Patent Office

   Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan; President: Hisashi Ietsugu) announces its receipt of a Fiscal 2010 Intellectual Property Achievement Award from the Japan Patent Office (JPO) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The award received was the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (Enterprises Excelling in Patent Utilization). 
  At the Intellectual Property Achievement Awards, the Minister of METI and the Commissioner of the JPO present intellectual property achievement awards to individuals and companies that have contributed to the expansion and development of the industrial property rights system. Along with these awards, a ceremony was held to commemorate the 125th anniversary of this system's establishment through the promulgation of the Patent Monopoly Act in 1885.
 
  Sysmex received its award on the basis of the following evaluation.
 
Points Made in Relation to the Award
  Sysmex conducts research and development, manufacture and sales of instruments, reagents and software required for blood testing, urinalysis and other types of testing. The Company holds the top share of the global market in the field of hematology.
  "The goal of Sysmex's intellectual property activities is to secure flexibility in R&D and business development and contribute to the management of the Group's business." In accordance with these basic principles, intellectual property activities, such as application and prosecution, are reported on an ongoing basis to the Steering Committee in an effort to enhance companywide awareness of intellectual property. 
  Sysmex conducts intellectual property activities that are designed to be friendly to R&D engineers, as well as that are global and reliable. Intellectual Property staff are allocated to R&D divisions, and they convene patent application study committee meetings and perform various other activities to swiftly obtain valuable rights to intellectual property created through the Company's R&D activities. 
  Each year, Sysmex devises and implements a patent application filing strategy, as it seeks to ensure the attainment of rights to technologies that will contribute to its operations.
 
  Going forward, Sysmex will continue to aggressively pursue intellectual property activities, as the Company considers intellectual property to be an important management resource.
