| For realizing new diagnostic technology suitable for day-to-day health management and disease prevention, Sysmex is engaged in research and development in the field of biomedical engineering for optical non-invasive measurement of body constituents. For example, the measurement of blood hemoglobin concentration is useful in testing for and diagnosing various diseases. But it requires blood sampling, which causes discomfort for the patient. Our non-invasive hemoglobin measurement technology is meant for measuring the hemoglobin concentration in the blood without drawing blood. In this method, images of the blood vessels just beneath the skin of the fingertip are captured with a CCD camera, while irradiating the finger with near infra-red light, and the hemoglobin concentration is determined by computer analysis of the images. This technology is expected to become useful in health care, such as in daily health monitoring and anemia prevention. |
