3. Particle Imaging by the Flat Sheath Flow Method
This method is used for high-speed capture of images of particles that pass through a flowcell. The suspension containing the particles is led to the flowcell and formed into a wide and flat flow at the center of the flowcell by the Flat Sheath Flow technology. Always forming a flat flow of the sample enables the capture of stable, properly focused images of the particles at all times. A 1/60 second interval strobe light is used to capture the images, and a large number of images can be acquired in short time. In the conventional method, which uses an optical microscope, it was difficult to capture a large number of images in a short time because the focus point varied with the size of particle. However, the Flat Sheath Flow technology has solved these issues. The FPIA-3000, Flow Particle Image Analyzer, employs this technology and is currently used in various fields of industry and the physical and chemical sciences.
