Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan; President: Hisashi Ietsugu) announced today the launch of the XT-4000i, a new model in its XT Series of multiparameter automated hematology analyzers directed mainly to medium-sized hospitals.
The XT-4000i is endowed with sophisticated capabilities for hematology analysis and a high processing capacity, and its addition to the XT Series will enable Sysmex to meet an even wider range of needs than before.

As a basic test for checking the status of health and diagnosing diseases, hospitals make examinations to determine the number and condition of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets, for example, in the blood. In the hematology field, Sysmex is aiming for a further increase in the efficiency and quality of such examinations. To this end, it has been pursuing improvement of processing capacity and ease of use as well as more sophisticated analysis technology.
In recent years, Sysmex has been working to achieve highly specialized testing that is useful for determination of disease diagnosis and treatment policy, in line with the concept of disease management*1. These efforts have led to the birth of high-level hematology analysis technology for applications such as detection of immature cells (underdeveloped blood cells that normally do not appear in peripheral blood), which serve as useful indicators in diagnosis and treatment of hematological diseases such as leukemia and anemia.
With a full assortment of original products covering all customers from large hospitals to general practitioners, Sysmex has the top share of the global market in the hematology field. Designed for medium-sized hospitals, its XT Series in particular is used by more customers than any of its other hematology analyzers.

The newly launched XT-4000i represents a 25-percent increase in processing capacity over the preceding models in the XT Series and is mounted with a function for detection of immature cells as standard equipment instead of the former offer as an option. In addition, it carries over the capabilities of the XE-5000, the high-end model in Sysmex's line of multiparameter automated hematology analyzers, and is also equipped with a function for analysis of blood cells in body fluids such as cerebrospinal fluid and pleural fluid.*2

*1 Disease management may be defined as the provision of optimal medical care to each patient for purposes such as prevention of disease outbreak and prevention of recurrence and worsening. Sysmex supplies testing to support the related decision-making, and endeavors to contribute to improvement of quality of life (QOL) for patients, standardization of medical services, and rationalization of medical costs.

*2 In Japan, this function is available for use in research applications.
