Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan; President: Hisashi Ietsugu) announced today that it had concluded an agreement with Quantachrome Instruments (HQ: United States), a worldwide pioneer in analysis and measurement of the specific surface area and pore size of powders, to serve as its exclusive distributor in Japan, and that it was going to launch sales and support for Quantachrome products in the Japanese market on January 16.
This step will enable Sysmex with its related line of products to handle all measurement items involved in basic property analysis required in the field of powder measurement, and thereby to supply even fuller solutions for the various issues faced by its customers.

Powder measurement consists of the measurement of particle shape, size, and surface area of individual particulate of powder, and the size distribution, fluidity, and density of powder aggregates . It provides a grasp of various properties, such as the mixability and solubility of pharmaceuticals, the spreadability and glossiness of cosmetic foundations and lipstick, and the adhesibility and color take of toner. Because it provides indicators for assessment of products applying powders, there are needs for it among the research arms of manufacturers and universities.
Sysmex has carried out development, production, sales, support, and consigned measurement of industrial products by applying the particle measurement technology it accumulated through its activities in the field of diagnostics to that of particle measurement. In 1998, it made an agreement for alliance with Malvern Instruments Ltd., a UK firm that ranks at the top globally in the area of particle property analysis devices, and launched sales of products as its exclusive distributor in Japan.
In accordance with this new agreement, Sysmex is going to begin sales and support activities as the sole distributor of Quantachrome products in Japan. This will enable it to offer measurement of properties (i.e., specific surface area/pore distribution and density), for coverage of all items needed for analysis of basic properties. Basic property analysis is at the foundation of powder measurement, and the capability to make measurements for all items with the products it handles will pave the way for provision of a wide range of solutions and analytical data to customers.
Sysmex is going to bolster its setup for sales and support activities and it is committed to continuing its active efforts to apply its core technology in industrial fields, fill out its portfolio to address needs associated with powder measurement around its own products, and expand its business.
