Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan, President: Hisashi Ietsugu) received awards in the 2008 Kinki Local Commendation for Invention hosted by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation: the Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office Invention Incentive Award for one invention, and Invention Incentive Awards for three other inventions.

[Outlines of the award-winning inventions]
(1) Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office Invention Incentive Award

HCV Reagent and HCV Antibody Detection Method (Patent number: 4005093)
This invention relates to a diagnostic product and method for detection of anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibodies in specimens in order to test for HCV infection. The development of a conjugated antigen with which anti-HCV antibodies are effectively reactive has enabled safe and precise anti-HCV antibody detection.
The technology of this invention is incorporated in reagents that detect HCV antibodies, Ranream HCV and HCV II EX, and contributes to rapid microassay in the detection of anti-HCV antibody reaction using the PAMIA series immune agglutination assay apparatus.
The Major Invention Award was also granted for this invention.

(2) Invention Incentive Award

Particle Image Analyzer (Patent number: 3871456)
This invention relates to a particle image analyzer that collects information on the size and shape of particles based on analysis of particle images. Immediately after simple selection of targeted particles from a particle size distribution diagram, the device can display appropriate particle images.
The technology of this invention is installed in the flow particle analyzers, FPIA-3000 and FPIA-3000S. It has particular application in the field of powder material production, in which prompt identification of images of abnormal particles is required.

Reagent and Method for Erythroblast Classification and Counting (Patent number: 3886271)
This invention relates to the classification and counting of erythroblasts based on flow cytometric analysis. It enables precise classification and counting even with blood samples that have been left for a comparatively long period after collection, and with vulnerable specimens containing white blood cells. Existing devices were incapable of performing precise measurement in both cases.
The technology of this invention is applied to the automatic, multi-item blood cell analyzers, XE-2100 and XE-5000, and the specified reagent STROMATOLYSER NR. Due to the utility of erythroblast counting, the potential for clinical applications of this invention is steadily expanding, and it is making a significant contribution to clinical practice.

Automatic Sample Preparation Apparatus (Patent number: 3987102)
This invention relates to automatic sample preparation by an apparatus that prepares blood smears on glass slides and automatically stains, washes, and dries the samples, slide by slide. Advantages of the apparatus include the efficient use of stain solution for a small number of samples, automatic procedure from smearing to staining, and a large degree of freedom in respect of the handling and control of glass slides.
The technology of this invention is installed in the sample preparation apparatuses, SP-1000 and SP-1000i, and is making a significant contribution to the facilitation of automated and more efficient blood testing.
