Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan; President: Hisashi Ietsugu) is to launch an automated clinical chemistry analyzer CHEMIX-800 for China and Asia-Pacificregions.
In addition, in order to provide emerging Asian markets with high-quality and highly price-competitive reagents for clinical chemistry, Sysmex will increase the number of product lines in the field of clinical chemistry at its
reagent production base
in China and will also step up efforts to establish a full-fledged business in the field of clinical chemistry in Asia.

Clinical chemistry tests are conducted to assess the body's nutritional status, examine the function of the liver and kidney, and to diagnose diseases such as hyperlipemia and arterial sclerosis, via the chemical analysis of enzyme, glucose and proteins in blood serum or plasma. Such tests are used commonly throughout the world along with blood cell count tests. One of the main characteristics of this testing is that it is performed very frequently
because it is used for diagnostic purposes.
The number of tests performed in the field of clinical chemistry has increased rapidly, along with the improvement in the health care environment in China and Asia-Pacific regions. Consequently, it has become necessary to improve the quality and efficiency of such tests in these regions. Particularly in China, the market for clinical chemistry tests has grown at the high rate of more than 10% per year (estimated by Sysmex).
Selling clinical chemistry analyzers and reagents together as a set is common practice in China and Asia-Pacific regions. Sysmex launched an automated clinical chemistry analyzer CHEMIX-180 and related reagents for the clinical laboratories at small- and medium-sized hospitals in 2003, and thereafter promoted enhanced services to clients in the field of clinical chemistry. As a result, the proportion of Sysmex’s reagents used for CHEMIX-180 now exceeds 90% of all reagents used. Along with an increase in the number of the analyzers installed, the marketing approach has become one in which the business model allows for the consumption of Sysmex’s reagents to increase.
CHEMIX-800, which the company has now started selling, is targeted at medium-sized hospitals in China, which are known as “grade two hospitals” in that country. In Asia-Pacific regions, marketing of the new analyzer is aimed at medium-size hospitals with 500 or more beds.
Sysmex is committed to continuing its efforts to differentiate its products from those of competitors based on the following two strategies: 1) Making full use of its brand power that has been established in the hematology field in which Sysmex boasts the top share in China and Asia-Pacific regions and 2) Providing
labor-saving solutions
by making data derived from tests available electronically through a combination of CHEMIX-800 and Sysmex’s laboratory information system, Laboman.
In addition, Sysmex is determined to further improve the quality of clinical chemistry testing in China and Asia-Pacific regions by providing clients not only with support services from its more than 40 distributors and
local call center,
but also academic services including the organization of seminars or workshops by Sysmex or its local distributors.
Furthermore, Sysmex is committed to meeting the future expansion in the demand for reagents for clinical chemistry testing in China and Asia-Pacific regions by increasing the number of product lines in the field of clinical chemistry at its reagent production base in China.
Sysmex will remain committed to making a significant contribution to the improvement of the quality of health care in China and Asia-Pacific regions as a comprehensive supplier that can provide devices, reagents, laboratory information systems, and services and support in various combinations.
