Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan; President: Hisashi Ietsugu) announced today the establishment of a “Sysmex R&D center Europe” in Germany, its first outside of Japan, in July of 2006. Built adjacent to Sysmex Europe GmbH, the Sysmex regional headquarters in Europe, the “Sysmex R&D center Europe” will begin its operations with an R&D team of four employees, including ones sent from Sysmex Corporation.
In order to push our engineering strategies forward, which aim towards achieving disease management, we will leverage our location in Europe to accelerate the development of hematology analyzers, as well as the commercialization of research themes within the Life Science field.

Europe contains a large number of industrial clusters positioned to promote commercialization in the medical treatment sector through partnerships between the academic, industrial and government sectors. In the region known as Medicon Valley*, for example, major global pharmaceutical companies and other leading companies in the medical care field maintain R&D bases and are otherwise active in research and development efforts. Germany is well known for its historical contributions to the advance of medical science, as many of global healthcare industries are based there and making advanced efforts.
Sysmex promotes R&D with the focus on the Techno Center in Kobe City, pursuing its commercialization of new technology rooted in a firm understanding of the themes and needs of medical treatment professionals and patients from the research stage on. When bringing new techniques to the market, for instance, we send our researchers and engineers to research and medical institutions around the world.
At its newly established “Sysmex R&D center Europe”, Sysmex will utilize the advantages of this European location to cooperate with research and medical treatment institutions in development of new testing technologies targeting diseases and other problems for which few cases exist in Japan. Another goal is to search for medical needs for the realization of disease management from a mid- to long-term perspective in moving to reflect those concerns and perspectives in the latest product development.
With a view towards creating value-added testing techniques, we will tap into our global network to carry out R&D and clinical evaluation.
Mobilizing its extensive global network, Sysmex will continue to advance R&D and clinical evaluation aimed at forging high-value testing techniques built on technology strategies perfected to realize effective patient management.
