Q1 What are your mid- and long-term growth strategies?
A

The Sysmex Group has formulated its long-term management vision as "A Unique & Global Healthcare Testing Company." Under this vision, we aim to be a leading company in those market segments where we can tap into our strength in healthcare testing, establishing ourselves as a unique global entity and providing customers with solutions that incorporate our advanced technology and special strengths.

Please visit this "Press Release" or "Sysmex in Brief - Strategies" for our ongoing mid-term plan announced in May 2011.

Q2 Can you describe your Asian operations?
A Home to some 60% of the world's population, the Asia region has seen dramatic economic growth during the past few years. The healthcare market also looks set for rapid growth.

Capitalizing on our natural advantage as an Asia-based company, we plan to improve our production bases and R&D facilities and expand our marketing and support centers, to be able to fine-tune our responses to the specific needs of different countries in the region.

In China, in addition to developing products in the local language, we sponsor local academic seminars, including hosting the Sysmex Sientific Seminar. Through these efforts, we contribute to progress in the clinical testing field in China.

We will continue our relentless pursuit of business opportunities, in our bid to be a leading company in the diagnostics market in Asia.

Q3 What is POCT? It is rumored to be a field with high growth potential.
A

POCT stands for Point-Of-Care Testing, which can be carried out in operating rooms, in intensive care units, or at the patient's bedside, rather than in central laboratories that routinely examine large numbers of blood and urine samples, in order to enable faster diagnosis.

We will expand our lineup in this strategically important business by developing our own products, such as rapid influenza diagnostic kits, and licensing of POCT products through business alliances.

We will also offer software that allows customers to manage POCT products over a network by centralizing and sharing information, thereby offering comprehensive support for customer-specific testing environments.

Q4 How do you utilize IT in the healthcare field?
A Medical laboratories require advanced, diverse, low-cost testing systems. We offer total solutions for these needs, providing a link between instruments, reagents, and IT. Examples include the management via a network of test data reported through a variety of instruments, and the development of software that permits compatibility and efficient use of a wide array of data.

We are also striving to create optimal testing environments for the entire Group by setting up software development subsidiaries in Belgium, China and New Zealand, and by integrating their know-how with IT product development bases in Japan.

In 2005, CNA Co., Ltd. (presently Sysmex CNA Co., Lpd), which develops and sells laboratory information systems for medical institutions, was acquired by Sysmex as a subsidiary.
