Sysmex Establishing New Instrument Factory to Meet Growing Global Demand

- Tripling Group Production Capacity by Simultaneously Expanding Sysmex and Affiliated Company Factories -

Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan; Chairman and CEO: Hisashi Ietsugu) has decided to build a new factory that will substantially increase the Group’s instrument manufacturing capacity to meet growing global demand for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) instruments. With a planned start date of May 2014, the new factory will be located in the city of Kakogawa, Hyogo Prefecture. Sysmex will also expand two factories at affiliated companies in Japan, enhancing its system for providing IVD instruments.

Sysmex leverages its advanced “made in Japan” technological capabilities to create innovative production systems that manufacture IVD instruments at Kakogawa Factory and affiliated companies Sysmex RA Co., Ltd. (HQ: Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture, Japan) and Sysmex Medica Co., Ltd. (HQ: Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan). From here, instruments are shipped to customers in more than 170 countries throughout the world.

In December 2012, we acquired a site for a new factory in the city of Kakogawa, Hyogo Prefecture that would allow us to meet future increases in global demand for IVD instruments. Also expanding the factories of Sysmex RA and Sysmex Medica will provide us with four sites in Japan—including the new factory and the current Kakogawa Factory creating a system that will enable us to provide a stable supply of products.
In addition to establishing the new factory and expanding the factories at its two affiliated companies in Japan, the Sysmex Group will reorganize the manufacturing of instruments among the sites to optimize production processes. These measures should approximately triple the Group’s capacity to manufacture IVD instruments.

The new factory will be positioned as the Sysmex Group’s core factory for instrument manufacturing, handling high-end models and coordinating overall support functions, such as technical support, quality control and cost management for all factories within the Group. Having production lines equipped with advanced manufacturing technology, the new plant will supply IVD instruments that offer high quality and strong cost performance. It will also proactively incorporate technologies to reduce environmental impact, in line with the Group’s aim of conducting environmentally-friendly manufacturing activities.
Furthermore, the new factory will have a product warehousing function to ensure the timely delivery of ordered products. We will also boost product inventory management efficiency and transform our logistics structure in other ways.
The current Kakogawa Factory will shift its production of high-end models to the new factory, concentrating instead on the compact models that are in high demand in emerging markets. By automating some steps of unit assembly and integrating our systems, from parts processing through to main body production, we expect to operate our factories at an even higher level of manufacturing efficiency than in the past.

Going forward, Sysmex plans to continue contributing to health by providing its customers throughout the world with high-quality, high-value-added products in a stable manner and with a “made-in-Japan” cachet.
